Japan’s first national library dedicated to children’s books

The International Library of Children’s Literature [ILCL] is a branch of National Diet Library dedicated to children’s books. As the sole national library for children, the ILCL houses a wide variety of children’s books and related materials from Japan and around the world. Of the two buildings of the ILCL, the Brick Building was originally built as the Imperial Library in 1906.It features a Renaissance-style architecture. which is beautifully integrted with the modern-style Arch Building completed in June 2015. Both children and adults can enjoy children’s books from all around the world through the collections and exhibitions of the Researchers’ Reading Room, Children’s Library, Meet the World, Teens’ Research Room, Gallery of Children’s Literature and Museum.
